how can i share a room with my sister?
I’m 13 and do not have any privacy. My sister who is seven has to share a room with me, and theres only 2 bedrooms for 5 kids! I am the oldest and don;t have any space of my own. I have to come home from school everyday seeing a mess left by her. Dirty clothes, dolls, messed up beds, and then i find her in my bed sleeping! It’s like I’m her maid cuz she won’t clean up after herself. She’s always hogging the tv and watching all the most annoying shows possible. I even have to take down my Lady Gaga posters beacause it is bad influence on her. I Cant use screens/dividers. Sometimes when she uses my desk, the seat stinks (she is always arguing with my parents cuz she does not wanna take a shower) and i have to wash the seat off everyday. And on top of my desk theres always bratz hair on it! She also takes cups of water upstairs and and leaves them on her nightstand and right now there are like a zillion cups on the stand! How can i possibly share a room with her????????
Okay, so you live in a 3-bedroom house (?) and think you should have a room to yourself? What a selfish little girl you are! Is the other kids’ bedroom for your brothers (you’re not clear about who is in your family aside from you and your 7-year old sister)? If all of the kids are girls, do you honestly think 4 girls can successfully share one room? And why do you have a television in your room, anyway? When I was your age, we had a TV in the living room, and my parents had one in their room. My siblings and I didn’t have a TV in each of our bedrooms! You should be studying and doing your homework after school!
Maybe if you make your bed in the morning when you get up (you don’t say whether you do or not) it might keep her out of your bed. Do what a prior respondent suggested — make it a contest to see who can keep the room cleanest (let her win about 75% of the time, so she doesn’t think you’re trying to trick her).
And by the way, is the Bratz hair on your desk really worth getting upset over? It might be worth your time to consider what is really worth getting upset over. (Social injustice — totally worth getting upset over; doll hair on the desk — totally NOT worth getting upset over; cruelty to animals — definitely worth getting upset over; paper cups on the nightstand — definitely NOT worth getting upset over). Decide (as my uncle who served in the Marines would say) “which hill is worth dying over.”
(BTW…so you have to take down your poster of Lady Gaga…she’ll be yesterday’s news soon enough anyway…just like Britney Spears (who?). Put up a nice poster with some zebras or horses or birds or something that you both can look at and try to find hidden pictures in. Or a poster of Susan Stamberg…
