Missing a Codec for WMM?
Hi there,
I’m trying to open an MP4 in Windows Movie Maker, but it gives me an error message about missing a Codec. I converted the file to AVI, thinking perhaps the WMM. The program is unsatisfied, and gives this error message:
“The file C:UsersRenameDesktopLady GaGa Poker Face Acoustic(HQ).avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.”
My question is: What is a Codec and its function? Also, is there a safe, free place to download?

A codec is very complicated to explain. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codec if you really want to.
You cannot get an mp4 codec for WMM. You should try getting a converter program and convert the file to a .wmv before importing it to WMM. Try PRISM video converter http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/index.html
