Costume Ideas for a DanceShow at school??! Help much appreciated! x?
My friends and I are taking part in a summer term dancing show, at our High School! I’m really excited! Our dance is to Telephone by Lady Gaga & Beyonce, and it’s coming along great. There are six of us in a group, but we have one problem. We have no idea what to wear!!!! We decided to go for something unique, like leggings and a floaty top or something. and also have ribbons attached to our wrists because we are doing alot of arm work. We need other ideas for costumes?? PLEASE HELP!! Thankyou!!! xx
Your dance is a modern/jazz number im assuming?
I think that i would advise against the ribbons on the wrist, as i would only do this if the dance if floaty and very lyrical. It doesn’t really fit the song. Also im sorry to say, but leggings and a floaty top is not unique at all. Most lyrical dances wear something similar to this. sorry.
You could wear something like:
Ripped leggins with an oversized slashed t-shirt.
Black hotpants with a baggy jumper which has been cut and ripped so it hangs off the shoulder, with rips in the collar etc.
Black footless tights, black leotard with each a different coloured elasticated belt.
you could get a black unitard, and then wind coloured ribbons up your legs, body and along your arms.
Black leotard and leggings, with leg warmers and a belt the same colour.
Keep it simple, black works well and slims you on stage, you could all be the same or you could all be different. However the rule with wearing different costumes in a group dance is: either change ONE aspect of the costume or all of it. For example, either have something different colour, each have a different style of t shirt, but they must all be the same colour, each have a different kind of leotard but again must all be the same colour. don’t do something like all have different colour leotards which are different styles too. It just looks messy.
Make sure your hair is off your face and if you match a hair piece to your outfit it really brings it all together. but again keep it the same colour. Make sure everyone agrees and is comfortable in what your dancing in. Don’t be axtravagent if people aren’t comfortable in it, they won’t dance well.
